Call for Applicants: we are looking for Consultant Researchers

The Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led, non-profit organization registered in Ethiopia under the Civil Societies Law 1113/2019 with registry number 4307. CARD acquired its legal personality on 24 July 2019.

CARD aspires to see Ethiopia where democratic culture flourishes on human rights values. It has been working with a mission to empower citizens and groups of citizens to ensure their ability to promote and defend human rights and build democratic governance in Ethiopia.

One of five CARD’s programs is Democratization Index (DI). DI program aiming to measure progressive democratic governance in regional state governments of Ethiopia’s federation through an annual evaluation of legal and practical developments. To this end it has been piloting its methodology for the past two years.  Now, it has completed its preparedness to develop its first regional assessment for the year 2015 in Ethiopian Calendar. Therefore, CARD is looking for a moderator of the focused group discussions, a quantitative and qualitative analyst for the collected inputs.  

Main Duties:

  • The moderator

  • To facilitate six focused group workshops

  • To develop a guiding presentation to lead the focused group discussions

  • The quantitative analyst

    • To select the best quantitative analysis software to apply

    • To encode the collected data

    • To provide quantitative analysis report

  • The qualitative analyst

    • To attend the six focused group discussions and collect the core points in the discussion

    • To develop qualitative analysis of the assessment 

    • To combine and develop a harmonious report of the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the assessment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or six years of work experience or master’s degree and four years of work experience in any social science field.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in the communications field, statistics, political science preferably for a non-profit advocacy organization. 

  • Demonstrable commitment to human rights values and democratic principles. 

  • Demonstrable analysis skills and contextual understanding of Ethiopia's sociopolitical situation. 

  • Demonstrable skill in social media use. 

  • Team player and ready to adapt and learn

  • Excellent command of Amharic and English languages, an additional proficiency in the local language is a plus.
