CARD conducted a Training on Conflict Resolution for Debre Berhan University Students

Debre-berhanCARD has conducted training on the topic of conflict mitigation through dialogue for Debre Berhan University students as part of a project funded by NED (National Endowment for Democracy). The training was held in Ethio Bernos hotel on the 28th and 29th of December 2019 in Debre Berhan. The training aimed to give students the skills to prevent or resolve conflicts through dialogue. 20 students, who lead clubs and associations as well as students who actively participate in extracurricular activities, have attended the training.

The first day of the training was given by Mesfin Manaze, a Ph.D. Candidate on the topic of 'diversity management' at Addis Ababa University. Mesfin’s training was focused on the basics of conflicts and conflict resolution mechanisms, the causes and effects of conflicts in universities, and mechanisms to resolve conflicts among university students sustainably. He further connected the theory with practice in Ethiopian Universities.

The second-day training was given by Befekadu Hailu, Executive Director, and Atnafu Berhane, Program Director CARD. The training was generally focused on the basics of human rights, freedom of expression, and legitimate restrictions as well as understanding and combating disinformation and hate speech.

Similar training has been given to Addis Ababa.
