Job Description

Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is looking for two (2) interns to assist with the implementation of a project aimed at bringing up high school and university students across Ethiopia as the next generation of human rights defenders.

Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led, for-not-profit organization registered in Ethiopia under the revised Civil Societies Law 1113/2019 with registry number 4307. CARD envisions seeing a democratic Ethiopia and has a mission of echoing principles of democracy to make it the rule of the game in Ethiopia.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of CARD’s Program Director and Project Officers, interns will be responsible for the day-to-day technical support of any and all related tasks of the current project and other CARD projects. Tasks include but aren’t limited to facilitating contact with relevant government offices, schools and universities, scheduling and facilitating training and public stakeholder meetings, and following up on project activities in and out of Addis Ababa.

Competencies Needed

  • Core Competencies: effective communication; effective planning and hosting of public events; ability to learn and adapt; commitment to deadlines and to work under pressure.
  • Essential Functional Competencies: a working understanding of human rights, political contexts, safety and security needs of target groups, and the ability to form networks and partnerships.

Qualifications required

Education: Recent graduates (2019/2020)from an accredited university in Ethiopia in law or other social sciences  

Experience: 0 years, prior internship experience working in project teams in appreciated Languages: Good command of the English language and one other local language
