CARD co-hosted panel discussion on Freedom of Expression, Hate speech and Election

CARD has co-hosted a half-day panel discussion on ‘freedom of expression, hate speech, and election’ in partnership with Ameha Mekonnen and Associates Law Office (AMLO) and Network of Digital Rights in Ethiopia (NDRE) on the 29th of February 2020 at Intercontinental Addis Hotel.

Wondimagegn Tadesse, Director of Center for Human Rights at Addis Ababa University, presented findings of his study on the topic during the first session of the panel discussion. Ameha Mekonnen spoke about the legal content and implication of anti-hate speech law Ethiopia has recently adopted during the second session and both of the presenters received comments and questions from participants for which they have responded based on their study and observation.

Both the study and panel discussion are made possible with the support of National Endowment for Democracy.
