Location: CARD Office, Addis Ababa
1. Position Summary
We are seeking a Grants Accountant (Maternity Cover) to temporarily support the finance team during the absence of a key team member on maternity leave. The role focuses on ensuring the smooth financial management of ongoing grants by handling financial reporting, budget monitoring, and compliance with grant agreements. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners, performing financial tasks with minimal supervision.
2. Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Grants Accountant (Maternity Cover) will be responsible for:
- Acting as the primary fiscal contact for sub-recipients and funders, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and timely financial reporting.
- Coordinating the budgeting process for assigned grants, setting up budgets in accounting software, and tracking budget performance.
- Preparing monthly budget-versus-actual reports and identifying discrepancies; working with the Grants Compliance Manager and program officers to address issues.
- Reviewing sub-recipient budgets and reimbursement requests to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Managing contractor agreements and ensuring the terms and conditions of agreements are met and well-documented.
- Ensuring grant-related transactions are properly recorded and aligned with contract agreements, in collaboration with the finance and program teams.
- Assisting finance staff in month-end closing activities by providing accurate and timely financial data.
- Maintaining electronic and paper-based financial records for grant documentation and easy retrieval.
- Performing other related duties as assigned, contributing to a collaborative and positive team environment.
3. Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and grants management procedures.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform effectively under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience interacting with internal teams and external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and financial software.
Desirable Qualities
- Prior experience working with grants or donor-funded projects.
- Experience managing sub-recipients or external contractors.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience in maintaining compliance with grant requirements.
- A positive attitude and ability to foster collaborative teamwork.
4. Duration and Reporting
- Contract Period: 3 months (covering maternity leave)
- Start Date: 1 November 2024
- Reporting To: Head of Finance & Administration
