TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR NEW GENERATION HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS (NGHRDs)—TRAINER

Introduction

The Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led nonprofit organization registered in Ethiopia under the Civil Societies Law 1113/2019, with registry number 4307 since July 24, 2019. CARD envisions an Ethiopia where human rights are upheld and democratic values thrive. The mission focuses on fostering a civic, media, and digital environment that respects human rights and promotes democratic culture.

Through the Civic Engagement program, CARD aims to cultivate a culture of human rights awareness and activism among youth. By engaging youth in meaningful discussions and activities, the organization seeks to inspire them to become advocates for change within their communities. Recognizing the vital role that young people play in promoting and protecting human rights, it is understood that they are often at the forefront of social change, uniquely positioned to challenge injustice and advocate for the rights of others.

Over the past three years, CARD has implemented the New Generation Human Rights Defenders (NGHRDs) project. This initiative provides training to youth on fundamental human rights topics, including gender equality, freedom of expression, assembly, and demonstrations. The goal is to empower youth to emerge as the next generation of human rights defenders, contributing to a more just and equitable society for all.
