Baseline Study on Women and Youth Political Participation in Selected Regions of Ethiopia

The Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) strongly believes that the meaningful participation of women and youth is essential for inclusive governance and democratic development. However, various structural, social, and institutional barriers continue to limit the active engagement of women and young people in political processes across Ethiopia.

With support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), CARD conducted a baseline study to understand the current state of women’s and youth political participation in selected regions of Ethiopia. The study highlights key barriers, opportunities, and regional dynamics that shape engagement in governance and decision-making. Its findings provide evidence to guide programs, policies, and advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening inclusive political participation.
