CARD conducted a Training on Conflict Resolution for Ambo University Students

The third of a series of training on 'mitigating conflicts through dialogue' at universities was given to 28 members of the Peace Forum at Ambo University. The Forum has 1700 members and the participants of the training came from 5 regions in Ethiopia; 12 of them were female.

The training was held for two days on the 1st and 2nd of February 2020 at the Abebech Hotel in Ambo town, Oromia. The first-day training was given by Mesfin Manaze, a lecturer at Jigjiga University and a Ph.D. candidate at Addis Ababa University who is studying conflict resolution through diversity management. His focus was on conflict resolution through dialogue. The second-day training was given by Befekadu Hailu and Atnafu Berhane, both from CARD, and the focus of the training was on Freedom of Expression, legitimate restrictions of freedom of speech, and techniques for combatting disinformation and hate speech online and offline. Upon completion of the training, the students created a telegram channel on which they keep communicating further and disseminating the knowledge to the members of the Forum assisted by the mentorship of CARD.
