ACSO Suspends CARD

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) announced on November 22nd that it has been suspended by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO). The suspension, effective immediately, is based on unfounded allegations of "lack of political impartiality" and engaging in activities deemed "contrary to the interests of the country."

CARD strongly denies these allegations and maintains its commitment to transparency, impartiality, and democratic principles. CARD has been instrumental in advancing human rights and advocating for democratization in Ethiopia since its registration in 2019.

Despite the suspension, CARD remains dedicated to its mission and is actively engaging with ACSO to resolve the matter. The organization is urging the authorities to reconsider the decision and allow it to continue its important work. It also called upon all partners and target audiences to provide the necessary support and solidarity.
