Position Type: Internship (6 months)
Location: Addis Ababa, with potential remote data entry tasks
1. Introduction
The Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (M&E) Unit plays a critical role in assessing the effectiveness of CARD’s programs by collecting, analyzing, and consolidating data aligned with our monitoring indicators at the project, program, and organizational levels. Our data-driven approach helps ensure that we deliver expected results and inform future project designs, adjustments, and management decisions.
Currently, we are collecting monitoring data for key projects such as the New Generation of Human Rights Defenders (NGHRD), supported by The Freedom House and RHF. These projects involve training a large number of youth across regions, with the need to capture baseline and post-intervention data through surveys and evaluations. To efficiently manage the high volume of data, the M&E Unit is seeking a Data Entry Intern to provide support. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in M&E processes while contributing to meaningful programs.
2. Purpose of the Internship
The M&E Unit needs additional capacity to:
- Manage large volumes of data entry efficiently.
- Support baseline surveys and participant evaluations for youth training projects.
- Assist in consolidating monitoring data for improved reporting and program assessment.
The intern will also have the opportunity to support events and activities across the organization, gaining exposure to different aspects of project implementation.
3. Objectives of the Internship
The key objectives of the internship include:
- Ensuring accurate collection, entry, analysis, and consolidation of monitoring data.
- Providing interns with relevant training and practical experience in monitoring and evaluation.
- Contributing to CARD’s mission to build the capacities of young professionals and prepare them for the workforce.
4. Key Responsibilities
The Data Entry Intern will assist the M&E Unit in:
- Collecting monitoring data from surveys (online, field, and in-person).
- Typing and inputting data accurately and efficiently.
- Organizing and maintaining proper documentation (both physical and digital).
- Supporting training participant evaluations and other feedback processes.
- Assisting with organizing learning information into learning logs.
- Compiling and entering quarterly performance results into M&E spreadsheets.
- Extracting and presenting data summaries for further analysis.
- Operating office equipment such as scanners and printers.
- Performing database backups and ensuring data security.
- Providing occasional administrative support and assistance with special projects.
- Reviewing data for deficiencies and resolving errors where necessary.
5. Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in any field (preferably a master's degree).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps.
- Fluency in Amharic and at least a basic level of English.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation.
Desirable Requirements
- Educational background in Statistics, Economics, IT, Project Management, Human Rights, Law, International Development, or related fields.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Previous experience or coursework in monitoring and evaluation is a plus.
6. Duration and Reporting
- Internship Period: 1 November 2024 – 30 April 2025
- Technical Supervision: M&E Manager
- Administrative Supervision: Head of Finance & Administration
