35 local CSOs including CARD have made a call for peace in the Ethiopian New Year 2016
The Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) joined hands with other 34 local civil society organizations to make a peace call on the eve of the Ethiopian New Year 2016.
The Peace Call is an extension of the calls made by collectives of civil society organizations in the past two years in September 2021 and 2022. In this year's peace call the collective of the CSOs has made the following ten points call to "actors involved in conflicts and their supporters, government authorities, political parties, civil societies, media and journalists, academics, social media influencers, religious leaders and international communities" to:
- create comprehensive national peace convention,
- ensure independent investigation and accountability,
- give due attention for sexual gender based violence,
- build a protection framework for minorities, vulnerable and marginalized groups,
- ensure meaningful public participation,
- establish an early warning system,
- extend humanitarian assistance without interruption,
- stop hate speech and the spread of misinformation,
- protect the civic space, and
- all stakeholders collaborate for peace building.
